A fire destroyed a two-story home early Wednesday morning on West CR 28.

Kansas Fire Chief Bob Dible said the fire was reported just after 12:30 a.m. at 8241 W. CR 28 and when firefighters arrived at the residence, the first floor was fully engulfed in fire.

Two residents were home at the time of the fire, and were able to make it out of the house, Dible said.

This home at 8241 W. CR 28 in Jackson Township was destroyed early Wednesday morning.

Thirty-five firefighters from Kansas, Bettsville and Bascom fire departments battled the fire, which took about an hour to get under control. Bascom and Bettsville EMS also were called to the residence.

One firefighter was transported to Fostoria Community Hospital for heat exhaustion. No other injuries were reported.

Dible said firefighters left the scene around 6:30 a.m. but were called back at 10:43 a.m. after the fire reignited.

"We were there for about two-and-a-half hours," he said.

Dible said the cause of the fire is undetermined, but firefighters do know it started in the bathroom area.

"We are still investigating," he said.

According to reports from the Seneca County Sheriff's Office, the Red Cross and the Seneca County Canteen assisted at the scene.
