Waukee G. "Birdie" Martin, 89, of Tiffin, passed away Monday evening, June 18, 2012, in the emergency room at Mercy Tiffin Hospital.
She was born Aug. 23, 1922, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Dewey and Flora (Sloan) Gayheart. She married Woodrow W. Martin June 26, 1945.
Survivors include a daughter, Ethel (Joseph) Carnahan of Tiffin; grandson, Jason Carnahan of Columbus; and many nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Woodrow in 1978, a brother, Calvin Gayheart, and two sisters, Billie Marie Gayheart and Juanita Ousley.
Waukee was a member of First Lutheran Church and a 1942 graduate of Belfrey High School in Pike County, Ky. She volunteered and organized many bus trips for Allen Eiry Senior Center and Kiwanis Manor Choir and ran the quilting and sewing room at Kiwanis. Birdie enjoyed traveling, including many trips to Amish country, and sharing her Indian heritage with school children and genealogy groups.
Her funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2012, at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ken Gillikin officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmont Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family 5-8 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory and 9-10 a.m. Friday at the church.
