Members of Ohio Department of Transportation talked about the future of road work at the Seneca County Board of Commissioners meeting Monday.
"We often don't have money for the major projects," ODOT District 2 Deputy Director Todd Audet said.
Projected annual operating costs will increase from $1.1 billion this year to $1.2 billion in 2015, according to a presentation given by Audet.
The ODOT District 2 office is located in Bowling Green and serves Fulton, Henry, Lucas, Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca, Williams and Wood counties.
Costs to the district include road work, snow removal, mowing and bridge construction, he said.
"We are still on task to complete all projects that are funded through the state," Seneca County Engineer Mark Zimmerman said in an interview after the meeting.

During a meeting Monday morning, Seneca County Board of Commissioners approved:
Bill vouchers.
Fund transfers of $76,757 to be made to a Public Assistance Fund through Job and Family Services.
A supplemental appropriation of $1,996.55 for the General Fund for 2010 for youth centers received.
A supplemental appropriation of $15,000 to Department of Job and Family Services for the purchasing of imaging equipment for the Child Services Division.
A supplemental appropriation of $400 for a laptop for Veteran Services.
An appropriation adjustment of $7,000 for Mohawk Nursery. Landscaping still is set to begin at the site of the former courthouse at the end of July.
A supplemental appropriation of $1,000 for office equipment repair at JFS.
Authorizing a Contract Service Agreement with Morrow County Board of Commissioners for the receipt, custody and care of Morrow County juveniles on behalf of the Seneca County Youth Center.
Authorizing the policy for fees for sex offender registration and notification on behalf of the Seneca County Sheriff's Office.
Zimmerman said countywide construction projects also are funded locally, such as through a local gas tax.
Audet said ODOT works closely on projects with county commissioners and county engineers throughout Ohio.
The following is the schedule of ODOT's upcoming construction projects in Seneca County:
Resurfacing SR 587, between US 224 and SR 18, with closure for 30 days. Resurfacing US 224, between East Township Line Road and CR 7, closing for 14 days. Combined estimated costs are $1.5 million, with a completion time on these two projects of October.
Replacing a culvert on US 23, between TR 112 (Center Road) and West CR 18, closing for 50 days. Replacing a culvert on US 224, between US 23 and TR 25 (Reinhart Road), closing for 21 days. Replacing a culvert on SR 19, between TR 106 (Coe Road) and East TR 8, closing for 35 days. Combined estimated costs on these three projects are $750,000, with a completion time of November.
Replacing a culvert on SR 19 between SR 101 and SR 228, closing for 30 days. Estimated cost is $89,440, with a completion time of September.
Replacing a bridge on SR 19, between CR 16 and East TR 163, closing for 120 days. Estimated cost is $715,000, with a completion time of December.
Expect intermittent lane restrictions on SR 12 in Seneca County, between CR 1 and Franklin Street, for smooth seal. Traffic is to be maintained by flaggers. No estimated cost was given, but a completion time is set for July.
Repairing a bridge on SR 635, between SR 12 and West TR 154, closing for 60 days. Estimated cost is $225,000, with a completion time of October.
Replacing a bridge and culvert on US 23 over Outlet Branch, between TR 24 (Muck Road) and West CR 59. Estimated cost is $212,000, with a completion time of November.
A release from ODOT said all work schedules are approximate, weather permitting. Detours are to be available and local access is to be given for residents.
Ditches will begin to get filled on SR 53 over the next couple weeks for safety purposes, said ODOT official Jeff O'Neil. There is a two-year window for repairs, as plans are set for resurfacing of SR 53 to begin in 2014.
In another matter, Community Development Block Grant funds were approved.
County commissioners previously determined $128,000 in CDBG funds would be used for making improvements to the Board of Elections building.
Seneca Regional Planning Commission Executive Director Jill Griffin, who prepared the funds, said anyone from the public who wishes to make a complaint regarding use of the funds may do so to the board of commissioners within 10 days.
