SYCAMORE - Mohawk Community Library Board of Trustees voted Monday evening to proceed with a proposed library meeting room expansion. The 2,360-square foot addition is to include additional restrooms along with a kitchenette, mechanical room and storage area.
The $300,000 project is to be paid for with $125,000 from the library's building and repair fund, $50,000 from Mohawk Community Library Foundation and $55,000 from the late Ruth Earle estate. No real estate operating levy money is to be used for the expansion, and no additional taxes are to be requested. The board of trustees is to form a "Special Edition II" capital campaign fundraising committee in the next few weeks to raise the remaining $70,000 needed for the meeting room project. Community volunteers interested in being a part of this committee can contact Susan Runion, library director.
The meeting room is to allow library programming to be expanded to include more technology-based classes, movie events and children, youth and adult activities. The meeting room is to be made available to community organizations, area businesses and industries when not being used for library activities.
The capital campaign is to be launched at Library Family Fun Fest July 13. Tax-deductible donations may be given to Mohawk Community Library Foundation for the project or to Mohawk Community Library Building Fund.
