ATTICA - A Michigan man was taken by Life Flight from the scene of a single-vehicle rollover crash in Venice Township Wednesday afternoon.

Donald R. Burkholder, 76, was listed in fair condition at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo Wednesday night. He had been driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala southeast-bound on US 224.

Sgt. Brett Gockstetter of State Highway Patrol said the vehicle gradually went off the right side of the road, re-entered the road, overturned several times and kept rolling off the side of the road. The vehicle came to rest on its top in a field on the north side of the highway.

Gockstetter said he did not know why Burkholder, who was wearing a seatbelt, lost control of the vehicle.

Personnel from Attica EMS, Attica-Venice-Reed Fire Department, Seneca County's Echo Unit, Seneca County Sheriff's Office and State Highway Patrol responded to the accident, which occurred about 2:30 p.m.

Alcohol and drug use were not suspected in the crash, a highway patrol spokeswoman said.

The crash remained under investigation Wednesday evening.
