NEW RIEGEL - New Riegel Board of Education members approved an increase in lunch prices for next school year Monday night. Cost for preK students through grade 3 is $2.05 while grades 4-12 are to pay $2.30 per meal.
Superintendent Elaine Nye reported speaking with staff personnel about a wellness program for employees through Integrated Wellness Solutions. She suggested next school year be used as a trial run because they would be negotiating a new contract. No premium penalty would be implemented for not reaching the desired 1,625 points for healthy practices or not participating in the program but those who do reach the goal will receive a 10 percent premium reduction.
She said Midland Athletic League met June 4 to discuss the possibility of keeping the remaining nine MAL schools that include New Riegel, Bettsville, Hopewell-Loudon, Old Fort, St. Wendelin, Fremont St. Joe, Lakota, North Baltimore and Calvert together as a non-football league. Schools with football could play football in another league. Other schools are considering the proposal and a decision should be reached in August.
Principal Dave Rombach said five students are involved in a summer Ohio Graduation Test intervention program for social studies.
He reminded parents that K-6 grade cards may be picked up at the school while grade cards for grades 7-12 have been mailed to parents.
Administrative staff and board members discussed post-secondary educational options being offered by Tiffin University online. Nye outlined the process students will have to follow to participate. Further talks will take place before finalizing the program.
The meeting moved into executive session for discussion of personnel concerning discipline and compensation.
In other action, board members:
Approved the transfer of $10,405.08 from the General Fund to the Termination Benefits Fund.
Amended fiscal year 2012 appropriations.
Approved temporary appropriations by fund for fiscal year 2013.
Approved a resolution waiving the body mass index requirement of HB 210 for third, fifth and ninth graders.
Voted to non-renew all spring sports coaches.
Approved supplemental contracts for 2012-13.
Approved Casey Losey as OGT intervention instructor June 25-29 for 13 hours as needed at a rate of $16 per hour.
Approved part-time personnel for non-certified positions effective June 4-Aug. 17 as needed.
Entered into a contract with Hopewell-Loudon Board of Education for gifted services for the 2012-13 school year.
Entered into a contract with Jim Welty for water operation systems July 1 this year through June 30, 2015, at a cost of $250 per month.
Entered into agreement for computer services with the Northern Ohio Educational Computer Association for $7,267.50 for the 2012-13 school year.
Approved Jarron Reesman as varsity baseball coach by a 4-1 vote.
Are to review the administrative salary schedule to be voted on next month.
Discussed the K-6 grading system using 1-2-3-4 instead of A-B-C-D-F.
Learned a counter top has been added to the concession stand.
The board meets next at 7 p.m. July 9.
