The Rev. Joseph Szybka of St. Joseph Catholic Church carries the holy eucharist through downtown Tiffin in celebration of the Corpus Christi Sunday. A public procession on the Feast of Corpus Christi (the Body of Christ) is a tradition that originated in Europe. The procession begins inside the church at the conclusion of Mass when the priest and worshippers carry the consecrated host to four altars. These represent carrying the Savior to the four corners of the earth. If weather permits, the procession makes its way through public streets to venerate the sacrifice of Christ's crucifixion with incense, candles, prayer and song. The procession ends with a service called Benediction, and the eucharist is returned to the tabernacle.
