Youth fishing derby winners announced

The first fish caught during the annual Tiffin Park and Recreation Department fishing derby at Izaak

Walton pond was a 7 1/2-inch bluegill caught by Nathan Kimmet 20 seconds after the derby started.

Seventy-eight youth participated in the contest, catching 68 fish.

Winners in the Most Fish Caught category were: 7 and younger, Lilly Hicks, first, Olivia Hicks, second and Kai Hoyda, third; ages 8-10, Jayce Bowman first, Caleb Hoyda, second and Luke Snyder, third; and ages 11 and older, Austin Campbell, first, Chris Rhodes, second and Dillian Hicks, third.

Longest fish were caught by Katelyn Irwin, ages 7 and younger; Caleb Hoyda, ages 8-10; and Chris Rhodes, ages 11 and older.

The most unusual catch was a striped bass by Eli Snyder, while Jayce Bowman caught the most fish (eight) and Chris Rhodes caught the biggest fish (a 26-inch catfish).

The fishing derby was sponsored by Tiffin Park and Recreation Department, Seneca Bass Masters and Izaak Walton.
