Shirley M. Garpiel

Shirley M. Garpiel, 70, of Tiffin, passed away Wednesday night, May 23, 2012, at St. Francis Home, Tiffin.

She was born May 2, 1942, in Chicago, to Frank and Minnette (Paukstis) Ochaba. She married John Garpiel, and they later divorced.

Survivors include two sons, Scott (Maryann) Garpiel of New Jersey and Kurt Garpiel of Findlay; two daughters, Laura (Tommy) Scheer of Tiffin and Linda (Armando) Garza of Bloomville; a sister, Nancy Krolak of Illinois; eight grandchildren, Shannon, Lucas, Resa, Ryan, Casey, Cody, Amantha and Karl; and one great-grandchild, Maelin.

She was preceded in death by her parents and companion of 22 years, Cletus Reymann.

Shirley was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, the choir and was very involved in the church. She worked for The Advertiser-Tribune for 25 years in the classified ad department and enjoyed golfing and traveling. Shirley loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchild.

Her Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Tiffin. A rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the Mass.

Friends may visit with the family 5-8 p.m. Monday, May 28, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian wake service will begin at 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to FACT.
