LANCASTER - Zach Gregg finished third in the pole vault for Seneca East and four teammates took fourth in the 4x800 Wednesday to give the Tigers a pair of state qualifiers on the first day of the Division III regional meet at Fairfield Union.
Gregg cleared 13-8 to earn his berth, and Brad McConnell, Jason Willman, Jeff Briggs and Karl Burgderfer ran 8:17.42 to advance.
The top four in each event qualified for state, set for June 1-2 at Ohio State University.
The state qualifiers have the Tigers tied for fifth overall with 11 points. Gahanna Columbus Academy leads Wynford 18-13 atop the standings.
A handful of other area athletes qualified for Friday's district finals after Wednesday's semifinals.
Seneca East's Kevin Moore (14.99) and Nick Hughes (15.28) will both run the 110 hurdles after turning in the second- and fourth-fastest times.
Buckeye Central's 4x200 team (1:35.21) made the finals.
The 400 will have Ricky Zeigler of Buckeye Central (50.67) and Seneca East's Jamie Schafer (51.98).
Hughes (40.29) and Buckeye Central's Austin McDonnell (40.74) advanced in the 300 hurdles.
Seneca East (3:30.62) and Buckeye Central (3:30.93) will have run a team in the 4x400.
