Columbian's Tyler Fuhrer and Hopewell-Loudon's Tyler Tyree have been named District 9 players of the year, in their respective divisions. Fuhrer won the honor in Division II while Tyree was named in Division IV.
Fuhrer helped guide Columbian to a share of the Northern Ohio League championship, its first since 2003, and a spot in the district semifinals. Tyree's Chieftains went undefeated in Midland Athletic League play and compiled an overall record of 25-2, advancing to the district finals.
Each player was also joined by their coach on the honoree list. Columbian's Curt Mellott was named Division II's co-coach of the year with Andy Dennings of Bellevue. Hopewell-Loudon's Brian Rothrock took the Division IV honor.
Fuhrer had a host of teammates also receiving all-district honors. Carter Mullins joined Fuhrer on the first team, while Jonah Boyer was named to the second team and Daniel Wood received an honorable mention.
Five Chieftains were honored in Division IV. Joining Tyree on the first team were Logan Sendelbach and Alex Ratchen. Austin Kuhn was named to the second team and Eric Tanner received an honorable mention.
Also in Division IV, the district champion Seneca East Tigers had a number of players recognized. Billy Diehm was named to the first team while Jordan Bowerman and Dalton Wise were named to the second team. Kyle Depinet picked up an honorable mention.
Also being named to the first team were Buckeye Central's Tyler Erwin and Justin Herrnstein, Tiger Jaso of Lakota, Aric Shock of Mohawk and Andrew Hohman of New Riegel. Second team honors went to Jacob Zeiter and Adam Paynter of Buckeye Central, Calvert's Alec Brickner and Brady Hall of New Riegel.
Picking up honorable mentions were Thomas Kaple of Buckeye Central, Brian Vamos of Lakota, Dominic King of Bettsville, George Iannantuono of St. Wendelin, Matt Frank of Calvert, Cole Davidson of Old Fort, Brandyn Reinhart of New Riegel and Jonathon Morter of Mohawk.
In Division III, Upper Sandusky's Justin Mattix was named second team and Mark Walton was named honorable mention. Carey's Dillon Sammons also picked up an honorable mention.
