KANSAS - Calvert baseball closed out its season by gaining a measure of revenge against the team that eliminated the Senecas from the sectional tournament. Calvert struck early and often in an 11-1 win over Lakota.
"We played fundamental baseball tonight and that was fun to watch," Calvert coach Matt Coleman said. "It's always nice to send the seniors out on a positive note, and see them contribute as they did tonight."
No senior may have contributed more than Matt Frank. Frank went 3 for 4, stole a base, scored three runs and drove in five. Also, Alec Brickner was the game's winning pitcher, allowing one hit and striking out five in five innings. He also had a base hit and two RBIs.
Ryan Huss scored and drove in a run, Joe Brickner had a base hit and scored and Clint Bogner had a base hit and an RBI.
"Moving forward, I think there is potential to build upon, if the boys are willing to grow and mature on and off the field in the offseason," Coleman said.
Tiger Jaso as Lakota's lone base hit.
