Two speakers with the Ohio Office of Tourism gave a seminar at the North Central Ohio Education Service Center Wednesday to illustrate to local businesses how they can attract consumers through using the website, www.discoverohio.com.

Thirty-five people attended two sessions offered.

The tourism office, affiliated with the Ohio Department of Development, states its marketing efforts are "to promote travel to and within Ohio to potential visitors in the surrounding states, as well as residents of Ohio through consumer and some group tour advertising."

Ohio Office of Tourism Information Manager Eric Herzog discusses how to use discoverohio.com to bring in tourism business during a seminar at North Central Ohio Education Service Center.

It relies heavily on social media to promote growth.

"Social media allows us a more immediate response as we are always talking with consumers," Ohio Office of Tourism Electronics Information Coordinator Roger Barker said. "We are growing quickly online by engaging Twitter and we have over 11,000 Facebook users. People are using us as a resource for travel information."

The Ohio Office of Tourism specifies its key to success is partnership with Ohio's tourism industry.

It runs regional print, radio, television and digital advertising campaigns.

The government website allows business owners to list events and photos and provides an option for lodging information.

The website provides the option to present savings for consumers.

"For example a museum and a restaurant can work together to create that package," Barker said.
