SYCAMORE - Nathan Weinandy came up with a couple big three-run hits and picked up the win Monday as Mohawk doubled up Midland Athletic League foe New Riegel 12-6.
Weinandy ripped a three-run triple in the first to help put the Warriors up 4-0, then added a three-run homer in the fifth - part of a seven-run surge - to help Mohawk regain the lead.
New Riegel scored three times in the fourth and got another run in the top of the fifth for a 6-5 advantage.
Weinandy (5-1) gave up six hits from the mound, and ended 3 for 4 at the plate with two runs and seven RBIs for the Warriors (10-11, 6-3 MAL).
Aric Shock backed him with three runs and two singles, Jonathon Morter scored twice and lined two singles, and John Riedel singled twice.
Blaine Hughes took the loss for the Blue Jackets (11-12, 5-5).
Jacob Shalk tripled for New Riegel, Andrew Hohman doubled and singled and Aaron Reinhart doubled. Josh Nye scored twice.
Chieftains cap perfect MAL run
BASCOM - It was nothing new on the Hopewell-Loudon side.
Two pitchers combined to toss a one-hitter and H-L got plenty of support at the plate Monday in a 16-3 win over Old Fort en route to wrapping up a perfect 11-0 mark in the Midland Athletic League.
The 24-1 Chieftains claimed the outright MAL title in Saturday's win over Seneca East, leaving just one opponent in the way of an unblemished league slate.
Eric Tanner (6-0) and Logan Sendelbach made sure the Stockaders didn't get much going with the bats. Tanner fanned eight over four innings and Sendelbach allowed the lone hit, a single by Brad Heilman.
The Chieftains had no such troubles at the plate.
Alex Ratchen went 3 for 4 with a homer, double, three runs and five RBIs, Eric Depinet doubled and singled and Austin Kuhn ended 3 for 3 with two runs and three RBIs.
Tyler Tyree scored three times and hit two singles, Sendelbach had three runs and a single, Austin Harrison scored twice and singled and Tanner knocked in two runs and singled.
Brandon Tittle (0-4) took the loss for Old Fort (3-20, 1-10).
FHS upends Flyers
MILLBURY - Fostoria jumped on top quickly and Zak Keels scored twice Monday on the way to clipping Lake 5-4 in Northern Buckeye Conference play.
The Redmen (11-14, 5-7 NBC) plated four runs in the top of the first and added another in the sixth.
The Flyers (20-4, 9-3) countered with a three-run burst in the bottom of the sixth to cut the gap to a run, but reliever Anthony Dean fanned three while scattering a hit and walk to preserve the win for Keels (2-4).
Hunter Abell doubled and scored for FHS, Casey Kitchen had a run and RBI off a double and single, Keels and Kaleb Bemis each added a single and run, and Elijah Hampton scored.
St. Joe's Yeckley outpitches SE's Bowerman
FREMONT - St. Joe's Zack Yeckley and Seneca East's Jordan Bowerman were matching each other pitch-for-pitch, equaling each other with zeros until the ninth inning.
And the run Bowerman allowed to lose the game was unearned.
St. Joe scored the game's only run in the ninth, after Bowerman walked the inning's first two hitters. Tivo Ysasi then hit a ball that ended up as a Tiger error, and Austin Jess came home with the game's only run and a 1-0 Streaks win.
St. Joe improved to 9-14, 5-4 in the Midland Athletic League. Seneca East dropped to 19-8, 6-5.
Bowerman allowed four hits, struck out five and walked four. Yeckley struck out 13 Tigers.
Six different Tigers collected one single each.
