6 sworn in to aid CASA

May 11, 2012
The Advertiser-Tribune

Six area residents recently completed the training to become Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteers for CASA of Seneca, Sandusky and Wyandot Counties. Seneca County Juvenile Court Judge Jay Meyer conducted the swearing in ceremony in the Seneca County courthouse for Samantha Leach, a Tiffin University student; Merre Phillips of Tiffin; and Kara Schoen of Republic. The Sandusky County courtroom was the setting for the swearing in by Sandusky County Juvenile Court Judge Brad Smith for Amy McFarland and Ted Wadsworth of Fremont; and Rosemary Willer of Lindsey.

These individuals were trained to advocate for child victims involved in cases of violent abuse and neglect. CASA volunteers have a legal duty to gather information about the circumstances of each case and report that information to the court. They attend the court hearings and make recommendations to the court focusing exclusively on the child's best interest.
