Sewer lines to be completed for school start

BASCOM - John Miller, construction manager from Touchstone, told the Hopewell-Loudon Board of Education Wednesday he continues to meet with Bascom sewer engineers. He has been assured that the school would be tied in to the sewer line first and should be online before the start of the next school year. Miller also said he expects the installation of the sewer is to be completed and the grounds around the stadium restored before football starts.

Superintendent Geoff Palmer shared data from www.compareohioschools.org which showed the district has exceeded the state average and similar districts in student performance per expenditure since 2003.

Kindergarten screening begins today. There are 40 kindergarten students registered. Twenty-six students have been accepted for open enrollment for kindergarten.

Principal Bill Dobsons announced the high school will offer dual enrollment courses with Tiffin University next year at $25 per course.

In other news, the board:

Accepted a donation to the Class of 2013 from BP Fabric of America Fund.

Renewed membership in Ohio High School Athletic Association.

Approved junior/high school student-parent handbook.

Set junior and high school fees per schedule.

Set kindergarten fees as $25 and grades 1-6 fees as $30.

Approved overnight trip for boys basketball team to Fort Wayne.

In personnel matters, supplemental contracts were approved for Jeremy Nutter, head football coach; Andy Amlin, assistant football coach; Justin Gunka, assistant football coach; Eric Beidelschies, fall and spring weight training, SADD advisor, Saturday school monitor and Wednesday school monitor; Rod Daniel, assistant athletic director, girls varsity basketball coach; Adam Smith, boys varsity basketball; Ruth Stiverson, fall, winter and spring athletic trainer; Steve Suter, athletic director; and Deb Weaver, assistant boys' cross country: Lisa Gelinas, junior class advisor, Tracie Herr, honors night; Theresa Lucius, yearbook advisor and high school quiz bowl advisor; Teri Miller FCCLA advisor; Carla Young, sophomore and freshman class advisor; and Janine Meisner, Wednesday school monitor.

Eight supplemental contracts were approved for the music teachers Jami Daniel and Jess Nelson. Extended time was approved for 11 teachers.

Two-year contracts were awarded to classified employees Sam Glick, William Shaull and Tracy Hoffman.

The board adjourned to executive session to discuss personnel, the ongoing negotiations with the teachers' association and job descriptions. No action was anticipated.

The board is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Friday to hire the new superintendent. The next board meeting is to be June 13.
