The Tiffin Police Department is introducing two new Dodge Charger cruisers.
Every two years the police department replaces cruisers due to mileage and maintenance costs, Lt. Aaron Russell said.
When asked why the Dodge Charger was chosen, Russell said, "We are expecting better gas mileage. The vehicle is equipped with a multi-displacement system that will electronically and mechanically shut down four out of the eight cylinders resulting in better miles per gallon."

New cages, transport seats and consoles had to be installed, Russell said.
The new cruisers will be equipped with LED lights, push bumpers, video cameras and bars on the back seat windows, he said.
The vehicles were funded through the city of Tiffin. Russell and Fred Stevens, interim chief of Tiffin Police Department, gave a presentation to the Materials and Equipment committee that resulted in the purchase of the vehicles.
The vehicles cost roughly $43,000 and were purchased through Coppus Motors of Tiffin March 7, Russell said.
Both vehicles will be on the road tonight, Russell said.
"Replacing the vehicles is crucial for safety and budgetary reasons," Russell said.
"I like the new cars; being over 6-foot-tall, I have enough leg room and won't be cramped," Russell said.
