Walker keys Seneca East sectional final runaway

NEW WASHINGTON - Samantha Walker belted a pair of doubles and drove in three runs, and four teammates each added two RBIs Wednesday as Seneca East hammered Monroeville, 17-0, in a Division IV sectional final.

The Tigers (13-10) advanced to Tuesday's 5 p.m. district semifinal at Shelby against Mansfield Christian.

Seneca East took control early, plating nine runs in the first inning.

Lauren Sprenger backed Walker with two runs and two RBIs off two singles, Holly Bordner and Cameil Ruffing each had two runs, two RBIs and a single and Alyssa England chased in a pair and singled.

Renee Snavely added a double and single, and winning pitcher Rachel Bauman lined two singles.

Surge in third sparks H-L

BASCOM - Hopewell-Loudon gained momentum with a six-run third inning Wednesday en route to beating Midland Athletic League foe St. Wendelin, 13-3.

St. Wendelin scored twice in the top of the third for a 2-1 lead before the Chieftains countered to help Aubrey Affholder earn the win. Affholder fanned seven in three innings.

Lauren Trumpler smacked a solo homer, singled and added two more runs for H-L, Hailee Hill scored twice, tripled and singled and Alicia Frank went 3 for 4 with three runs and a double.

Abby Park backed them with two runs and five RBIs off three singles, Racquel Hossler scored twice and singled twice and Kelsey Coppus had two RBIs off three singles.

Meghan Reiter took the loss for the Mohawks.

Haley Wolfe lined two singles and Edy Mowrey had a single, run and RBI.

Senecas roll up Bobcats

BETTSVILLE - Jordan Gase and Haley Steiner each singled twice and doubled Wednesday to fuel Calvert's 26-5 Midland Athletic League win over Bettsville.

Both Senecas had three hits, with Gase adding three runs and two RBIs and Steiner getting two runs and three RBIs.

Steiner also earned the pitching win for Calvert (3-17, 2-8 MAL).

Kate Brickner scored twice, drove in two runs and singled for the Senecas, Nicole Bickle scored three runs and singled, and Alisa Fry had two RBIs and a single. Casey Bruns (4) and Danielle Beckley (3) combined for seven runs.

Abby Orwig suffered the loss for the Bobcats. Brittany Phanthavong singled twice and Macie Harvey singled and scored.

Tigers cuff Stockaders

OLD FORT - Old Fort managed only one hit Wednesday in a 10-0 Midland Athletic League loss to North Baltimore.

Losing pitcher Kathryn Reinhart singled for the Stockaders (2-17, 1-9 MAL).

The Tigers banged out 13 hits.

Strong second carries Wynford

UPPER SANDUSKY - Wynford jumped ahead with five runs in the second inning and went on to post an 11-6 win over Upper Sandusky.

"Wynford came out with hot bats tonight putting the Rams at a deficit early in the game," Upper Sandusky coach David Young said. "We were a little flat to start the game and the Royals were ready to play and were looking for a win."

Savannah Piecha had a home run for the Rams. Paige Perry had two hits with a double.
