Feasel's Frame and Collision, 4400 US 224, has taken a proactive step in protecting the environment by going "green" with its paint finishing system. The business recently switched to an environmentally friendly waterborne basecoat from a conventional solvent-based system.
"As a business leader in the community, we understand our responsibilities and have to set a high standard for our practices," said owner Rick Feasel. "Our use of waterborne basecoat for refinishing our customers' vehicles will significantly reduce the emission of volatile organic compounds into our atmosphere. This move will further help us to do our part to improve the quality of our air and contribute to an overall healthier work environment."
VOCs are chemical compounds commonly used in paint coatings and cleaning products, Feasel said. When released into the atmosphere, they help to cause air pollution.

When compared to a conventional solvent-based system, he said the new water basecoat manufactured by PPG of Pittsburgh can reduce VOC emissions by up to 80 percent.
Waterborne coatings are mandatory in California and Canada, he said, but are not yet required in Ohio.
Waterborne basecoat is the latest coating technology that's typically used by manufacturers to create the original color on today's vehicles, Feasel said. According to manufacturer PPG, the introduction of its waterborne color toners for use in collision centers provides an enhanced ability to match a vehicle's original finish.
"This is a major technological advancement with no downside," Feasel said. "Not only is the paint better ecologically, it gives better color matches and it's faster to complete a repair when compared to the system we were using."
Feasel's has a 6,800-square-foot facility where it repairs and paints all vehicle makes and models.
