Three police officers at Tiffin Developmental Center will be losing their jobs in June after a move by the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities.
One non-union position will be cut, in addition to the three unionized police officer positions.
The police officers at TDC are members of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Half of all police officer positions were eliminated at developmental centers across Ohio in January, while the rest of the officers were told there would be more layoffs in July 2013, said one officer at TDC, who wished to remain anonymous.
The remaining 30 police officer positions are to be eliminated by the ODDD at the 10 centers statewide.
Officers' experience varied from six years to 28, according to union representative Bruce Amory, of the Ohio Civil Services Employees Association.
FOP officers at TDC typically investigate potential cases of abuse, neglect or theft.
"We are concerned about the investigations that take place at the centers," Amory said. "There is no replacement for the lost experience."
Vicki Rich, spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities, said the position classification is being eliminated.
"We've gone with a different business model with a broader description, which will be a more effective way to serve our clients," Rich said.
Replacing the four eliminated positions will be three management positions, she said.
