The third annual Relay For Life Birthday Bash is to take place at noon today at Hedges-Boyer Park's band shell.
The bash kicks off Tiffin's Relay for Life week, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Relay For Life starts at 6 p.m. Friday and continues through noon Saturday at Hedges-Boyer Park.
After a welcome to the bash from volunteer Lee Martin , speakers are to be Mayor Aaron Montz, Seneca County Commissioner Dave Sauber and cancer survivor Mary Sauber.
Joseph Kaminski, specialist in radiation oncology at Mercy Cancer Center at Tiffin, is on the agenda, as well as Deb Hilborn and Chris Krahling of the American Cancer Society.
Another highlight will be presentation of the second Peg Lucius Dash Award by Dave Lucius and Jill Gosche. The award is named after Lucius, who lost her battle with cancer last year, and a poem called "The Dash," which is about living life to the fullest during the "dash" between a person's birth date and death date.
In addition, cancer survivors and sponsors are to be recognized, and people attending are invited to enjoy cake and punch.
T-shirt are available for $5. If it's raining, the bash will be moved to the barn.
Also Monday, Jac & Do's Pizza, 283 S. Washington St., Richard and Jan Valentine are hosting a fundraiser in honor of their granddaughter, Adalyn Lutz, who is battling luekemia.
The Team Addi Pizza Day takes place 6-11 p.m. and proceeds go to Relay For Life in Addi's name.
The Valentines report "Addi is doing very well now and is almost finished with her treatment plan. The family just wants to give back to help other families that are faced with this life-changing ordeal."
Family and friends "who have learned the art of pizza making" will be on hand to take orders. Addi may be there to greet people if all goes as planned.
Community members are encouraged to stop at the restaurant or call (419) 447-0196. Orders are pick-up only.
Other Relay For Life fundraisers planned are:
"Anti-flocking insurance" from Mary Sauber. For a $10 insurance premium, residents may be assured their lawn won't be chosen as the next roosting point for a flock of flamingos as they migrate around the city. The "flockers" ask that residences chosen to be "flocked" don't have a big dog running loose in the yard.
The fourth annual Relay For Life Golf Outing June 9 at Seneca Hills Golf Course. An entry fee of $50 for each four-person team includes green fees, cart and lunch. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the outing has a shotgun start at 8 a.m. For more information, call Sue Madden, (419) 934-2349.
