Chieftains knock back L-B

FINDLAY - Austin Harrison and Eric Depinet both went 2 for 3 with an extra-base hit and Hopewell-Loudon overcame Liberty-Benton's one good inning Friday to forge a 9-3 win.

Harrison scored twice, tripled and added an RBI and Depinet had a double and RBI for H-L (20-1). Austin Kuhn backed them with two singles, a run and RBI, Alex Ratchen scored twice and singled and Tyler Tyree drove in two runs and scored.

Eric Tanner improved to 5-0 for the Chieftains, who fell behind 3-2 when the Eagles (16-6) scored all of their runs in the bottom of the third.

However, used a four-run burst in the fifth to regain control and added three more runs in the seventh.

Trumpler-led H-L grounds Eagles

FINDLAY - Lauren Trumpler homered and doubled to drive in four runs Friday as Hopewell-Loudon overwhelmed Liberty-Benton 7-1.

Abby Park added a triple and run for the Chieftains (8-14), who broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the third.

Alicia Frank singled twice and scored twice and Racquel Hossler added two runs. Aubrey Affholder struck out eight to get the win.

The Eagles scored their lone run in the seventh.

Bluffton breezes past Calvert tennis

BLUFFTON - Calvert claimed only one victory Friday in a 4-1 tennis loss to Bluffton.

Senecas Ian Warnement and Daniel Kwiat upended Nicholas Slinger and Justin Paul 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.

Nathan Diller and Adam Basinger blanked Calvert's Mark Fowler and Tim Puesey 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

The Pirates breezed through the singles matches. Matthew Deter beat Jacob Zimmerman 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, Michael Deter dropped Jack Burtis 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 and Aaron Basinger defeated Danny George 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.

The loss dropped Calvert to 1-9.
