Eldon E. Sherman

Eldon E. Sherman, 86, of Tiffin, passed away at 1:57 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Elmwood at the Shawhan, Tiffin.

Eldon was born Feb. 15, 1926, in Clinton Township, to Ralph E. and Mary R. (Flanders) Sherman. He married Pauline R. (Aller) March 6, 1948, at First Lutheran Church, and she preceded him in death Oct. 29, 2007.

Survivors include his two children, Janet (Joseph) Zirger of Tiffin and Lynn (Rebecca) Sherman of Perrysburg; four grandchildren, Jeff (Sandy), Josh Zirger, Nick and Tori Sherman; a great-granddaughter, Kaylie Zirger; and a sister, Lucinda (Dale) Wilkinson of Waynesboro, Ga.

Eldon also was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Alice (Cecil) Williams, Helen (Robert) Dildine, Marguerite (Marion) Frase; and two brothers, Eldridge Sherman and Dwight (Helen) Sherman.

Eldon retired from American Standard where he worked as an accountant for 40 years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Tiffin, Seneca County Genealogical Society, General Society of Mayflower Descendants and a graduate of Columbian High School and Tiffin University. Eldon was a United States Navy veteran serving during World War II.

His funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home and Crematory, 135 N. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio, 44883, (419) 447-1221, with the Rev. Ken Gillikin officiating.

Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. There will be a private family burial at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery with military rites rendered by United Veterans Council.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church, Stein Hospice or to the charity of the donor's choice.
