Amplex Internet representative Brian Hintze addressed Bettsville council members Tuesday evening seeking the possibility of mounting equipment to the railing on the village water tower to provide the area with broadband internet services. In exchange the village offices would receive free internet. He said the basic rate to households would run $34.95.
Chief of Police Don Mason reported his department is practicing for their weapons' qualifications that take place in June. Councilman Steve Turpin said there is wrong-way parking on several streets.
Fire Chief Jim Maglosky announced receiving a $4,700 State Fire Marshall's grant for fire training purposes. A 36-hour volunteer firefighters class is in progress and council approved Maglosky obtaining a village credit card.
Fiscal Officer Larry Dunson informed council that auditors have recommended they approve all transfers of funds before it occurs. Members approved the transfer of funds in 2010-11.
CROSSWAEH individuals have been assisting the village in brush pick-up Thursdays this spring. The village will set a regular schedule at a later date.
Members discussed the bridge load limits on CR 61. Solicitor Rick Palau said the village is not able to stop truck traffic or change the load limit signs according to federal legislation regarding interstate commerce.
In other business, council:
Approved an amendment to zoning by-laws pertaining to existing fences, walls and hedges without requirement of having a property survey if agreed by all parties involved.
Heard Mayor Gary Harrison name Turpin fire committee chair.
Approved the job description for the head lifeguard.
Approved the salary rates for Linda Davis, park manager, and Mike Porter, head lifeguard.
Approved the magistrate court report.
Council meets next at 6:30 p.m. June 5.
