Gibsonburg edges out Columbian

Gibsonburg scratched out an early 2-0 lead and made it stand up Monday in a 2-1 win over Columbian.

Paige Correll (1-16) suffered the loss for the Tornadoes (2-19), surrendering single runs in the first and second innings. She allowed only six Golden Bear hits in the game.

Correll doubled for TC and Gabby Schmucker singled and scored for Columbian.

Durst dominant for front-running Lakota

KANSAS - There were only three hits total in the Midland Athletic League contest between Lakota and Seneca East. Two of them came from the Lakota's Alaina Bickford and the Raiders made the most of their opportunities, topping the Tigers 3-0.

Abby Durst, the MAL's top pitcher with a 0.99 ERA entering the game, shut down the Tigers' offense to help the Raiders stay atop the MAL standings, unbeaten in league play. Durst struck out 13 and allowed just one hit on the day.

Lakota put up one run in the first and two more in the fifth to account for the scoring. Bickford tripled, singled, picked up an RBI and scored a run. Durst and Courtney Chalfin also scored for Lakota.

Adelsperger's arm, McClain's bat all that Mohawk needs

Kasey Adelsperger tossed a no-no and Taylor McClain hammered a homer Monday in Mohawk's 14-0 Midland Athletic League win over Calvert.

Adelsperger struck out nine and scattered five walks, and added a double, single and RBI for the Warriors (12-5, 6-1 MAL).

McClain's homer was part of a 2-for-4 effort that included three runs and four RBIs.

Brooke Weinandy scored three times, tripled and drove in a run, Molli Cartwright had a double, run scored and RBI, Nikki Kieffer scored twice and singled and Ashley Cooper ended with two runs and two singles.

Nicole Bickley suffered the loss for the Senecas (1-14, 1-7).

1-2 punch keys Buckettes

NEW WASHINGTON - Maddie Ehresman fired up Buckeye Cenral's offense and Morgan Wurm quieted Riverdale's in a 7-0 North Central Conference win Monday.

Ehresman drove in two runs with two doubles and scored twice for the Buckettes (14-8, 4-6 NCC), while Wurm (7-5) twirled a one-hitter and walked only two. The lone hit by the Falcons came with two outs in the seventh.

Wurm also doubled and scored, Hannah Heydinger had a double and three RBIs and Kelly Redmon and Taylor Hanes both scored twice and singled.

Blue Jackets get help from all over

BETTSVILLE - Three New Riegel players each drove in three runs Monday to fuel a 19-2 Midland Athletic League win over Bettsville.

Brooke Scherger, Taylor Arbogast and Brittany Gillig each chased in three runs for the Blue Jackets (17-4, 7-1 MAL), with Scherger adding three runs and a double, Arbogast singling twice and Gillig tallying two singles and two runs.

That was more than enough for Taylor Kirian (16-4), who gave up only two hits, a walk and a hit batter while fanning nine in the five-inning game. She also went 2 for 3 with a triple, double and two RBIs.

Mikayla Theis and Hailee Theis both had two RBIs and a single, Paige Noftz scored twice and singled, Lauren Zoeller added three runs and a single, and Ruthann Schreiner singled twice.

Tasha Kipps took the loss for the Bobcats (0-13, 0-7). She and Brittany Phanthavong both singled.

11-run third powers Carey

CAREY - Carey broke open a close Midland Athletic League game with an 11-run burst in the third inning Monday en route to beating Old Fort 16-6.

Old Fort (1-14, 1-7 MAL) tied the game at 1 in the top of the third before the Blue Devils (10-10, 5-3) rolled away.

Taylor Fletcher had three runs and three RBIs off a double and a single for Carey, Abby Hall scored three times and singled twice and winning pitcher Ali Rymer added two runs, three RBIs, a double and a single.

Makenzie Wentling scored twice, drove in two runs and singled, Erin Boes chased in two runs with two singles and Katie Driggers had a single and two RBIs.

Losing pitcher Kathryn Reinhart doubled and scored for the Stockaders.

Addi Reineck singled twice and scored twice.

Too little too late for Mohawks

FOSTORIA - It took St. Wendelin three innings to get its bats going against Fremont St. Joe, but by that time, the Streaks had already built an 8-0 lead. St. Wendelin got going with four runs in the third inning, but St. Joe wouldn't stop scoring and posted a 17-7 victory.

Edy Mowrey homered, doubled and drove in four for St. Wendelin. Meghan Reiter added a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Haley Wolfe added a pair of base hits, scored twice and drove in a run. Sammie Digby and Madison Gilliland also scored while Chloe Reiter and Beth Hay each had two-hit games.

NB breaks free of Chieftains

BASCOM - North Baltimore snapped a 4-all tie with four runs in the top of the fourth to key a 9-4 Midland Athletic League win Monday over Hopewell-Loudon.

Lauren Trumpler went 3 for 3 with two runs, a double and an RBI for H-L.

Aubrey Affholder took the loss for the Chieftains.

Six in the first paces Rams

UPPER SANDUSKY - Upper Sandusky crossed the plate six times in the first inning en route to an 11-0 five-inning North Central Conference victory over Galion.

Justeen Searfoss had three hits and scored two runs to lead the Ram offense. Amber Cox doubled twice and scored a run. Savannah Piecha and Maranda Stansberry each had two hits with Piecha scoring twice and Stansberry once.

Tiffany Towns doubled and scored twice.

Allie Smith pitched Upper Sandusky to the win, throwing a complete-game, two-hit shutout.

Asmus handcuffs Redmen

TONTONGANY - Kyle Asmus twirled a one-hitter and struck out 16 Monday in Otsego's 7-2 Northern Buckeye Conference win over Fostoria.

The Knights led 3-0 by the end of the second inning and used a three-run fifth to all but put the game out of reach.

Natalie Wright paced the offense with a run and two RBIs off a triple and single. Asmus scored twice and singled and Emily Carson scored twice.

Ashlyn Roberts singled and scored for the Redmen (4-16, 2-7 NBC). Casey Babb took the loss.
