A Board of Control meeting took place Monday morning to award a bid to Helms and Sons Excavating Inc. for $470,528 for the Greenfield Street construction project.

The project does not have an official start date yet, but will expand Greenfield Street further west across Heidelberg University property in front of Aigler Alumni Hall to meet Perry Street, which will eliminate the need to turn right from Greenfield and then left onto Perry Street, City Engineer Curtis Eagle said.

Eagle said Heidelberg University has approved of the project.

The engineer's estimate was $559,494.65.

Other bidders were K and F Construction and Excavating LLC with a bid of $585,613.46, and Buckeye Excavating and Construction Inc. at $537,035.

The lowest bid is generally the winner, but is also awarded on the company's reputation and other factors.
