Mohawk overturns college credit decision

April 28, 2012
By Dan McElhatten - Correspondent , The Advertiser-Tribune

SYCAMORE - The Mohawk Board of Education met in a special meeting Thursday night and reversed a previously approved decision to modify credit for its post-secondary enrollment option courses. The 1.0 weighted scale was returned to a 1.2 scale.

A contingent of students, emboldened by a petition signed by 80 students, had addressed the board earlier this month with wishes to have the decision reversed. The decision was made by a 4-to-1 vote, with Todd Price casting the dissenting vote.

The board also acted on the recommendation of a search committee and voted unanimously to hire John Arnold as Mohawk's new varsity basketball coach. Arnold is to retain his employment with Marathon Petroleum in Findlay.

Tiffin Calvert graduate Dan Hammer also was in contention for the position.
