ATTICA - Attica Village Council Thursday night approved to get soil boring from a property they are interested in as a site for a new wastewater treatment plant.
The meeting opened with an hour-long executive session, which resulted in a motion from Councilman Nate Frisch to have the samples taken from an undisclosed address, at a cost not to exceed $10,000. All members present
approved.
Village Administrator Greg Martin said engineer Marvin Gnagy has conducted water testing for trihalomethanes, created by bromides combining with chlorine, and will submit the results to the Environmental Protection Agency by Monday. A report of the results is to be presented in May.
Police Chief Keith Turner said part-time Officer Jennifer Boucher, who is a certified child restraint system installer, would like to conduct a survey for village residents to check for the proper installation of children's car seats.
Turner announced the department's participation in the county drug take-back, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. today at the village office.
Councilman Jeff Painter announced farmers' markets at Honey Creek Park are set for 9 a.m.-1 p.m. the first Saturday of the month begining June 2. The events last until October. He is seeking vendors to participate.
Dale Brown with American Electric Power said the company will be trimming and removing trees in the village. The village requested several additional trees be removed but were denied. Information on tree triming can be obtained at the village office.
Fiscal Officer Pat Krebs reported a total of $637,928 in all funds.

Adopted an ordinance regulating defecating on private or public property by dogs.
Heard the second reading of an ordinance establishing the rates of pay for seasonal village workers-pool manager at $8 per hour; assistant pool manager at $7.90 per hour and lifeguards at $7.70 per hour.
Heard the second reading of an ordinance establishing procedures, guidelines of operation, policies and fee schedule for the village.
Heard the annual community garage sales sponsored by the Historical Society are May 17-19.
Heard recycling is 4:30-6:30 p.m. May 3 with Reed Township in charge. Volunteers are always appreciated.
Heard Dan Stahl tested the Attica fairgrounds emergency warning siren Thursday and it responded well. Will be testing again.
Discussed identification markers for households for emergency personnel.
Council is to meet next at 7:30 p.m. May 10.
