By Nicole Walby - Staff Writer , The Advertiser-Tribune

An 83-year-old Tiffin woman pleaded not guilty to a vehicular manslaughter charge in Tiffin Municipal Court Wednesday.

According to Tiffin Police Department, a vehicle Florence H. Lofay was driving struck Gary Cooper, 49, an Ohio American Water worker, at Wall and West Davis streets March 2. Cooper was taken to Mercy Tiffin Hospital and later was transported to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, where he died.

Tiffin police believe one possible factor that caused the accident was driver inattention, Sgt. Mark Marquis said.

A pre-trial hearing is set for May 18, and a jury trial is set for June 28 at the request of John Barga, Lofay's attorney, according to Tiffin Municipal Court documents.

According to court documents, Lofay could receive 90 days in jail along with a $750 fine if convicted.
