Pirates Nicholas Slinger and Justin Paul blanked Mark Fowler and Tim Puesey 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Matthew Deter beat Jack Burtis 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles for Bluffton, Michael Deter dropped Jacob Zimmerman 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 and Nathan Diller downed Danny George 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.
Doubles crucial for Shelby
SHELBY - Doubles play was the difference Monday as Shelby edged Columbian, 3-2.
Whippets Evan Shuler and Cole White defeated Jared Fleming and Brandon Berry, 6-0, 7-5. In the second doubles match, Schyler Robertson and Evan Head knocked off Austin Crabtree and John Obringer, 6-2, 6-0.
Shelby's other win came at third singles, when Alex Nieto topped TC's Braden Kuhn, 6-1, 6-2.
Columbian's wins came when Victor Keller beat Grant Binion, 7-5, 6-3 and when Nick Gaietto topped Sam Coleman, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
The Tornadoes fell to 8-5, 4-3 in the Northern Ohio League.
