Seneca East falls to New London, responds to top?Margaretta

ATTICA - Seneca East dropped a game to New London 10-0, but responded to score a 4-2 victory over Margaretta.

The Tigers managed just three hits in the opener, and then fell behind early in game 2 when Margaretta put up two runs in the top of the first.

However, Seneca East (11-6) tied the game in the bottom of the frame, then tacked on runs in the second and fifth innings.

Rachel Bauman pitched the Tigers to victory over the Polar Bears. She allowed just two runs on three hits, striking out three to improve to 9-4 on the season.

Bauman also helped the cause offensively, singling, doubling and driving in a run. Renee Snavely also had two hits with an RBI and Samatha Walker drove home a run. Lauren Sprenger, Holly Bordner and Kristen Bowerman all added base hits.

LIMA - Edy Mowrey keyed a big day at the plate Saturday for St. Wendelin as the Mohawks hammered Lima Central Catholic 20-9 and 18-4.

Mowrey finished 7 of 9 with four runs and 11 RBIs, fueling a 32-hit attack that featured 13 extra-base hits by the Mohawks.

She went 3 for 4 with four RBIs, two runs and a homer in the first game, which St. Wendelin broke open with an eight-run burst in the fourth inning for a 17-7 lead.

In the nightcap, she belted a homer and two doubles as part of a 4-of-5 showing. She also drove in seven runs and scored twice.

Meghan Reiter got the win in the opener, fanning six. She also homered, doubled, singled, drove in four and scored twice.

Adrienne Emerine added two runs and two RBIs off a double and single, Haley Wolfe had four runs, four RBIs and two singles and Johnna Hoover singled twice.

Meredith Niese's 3-for-4 effort with a double and three RBIs topped LCC in the first game. She took the loss.

Jayna Clemens had two RBIs and a double and Molly Clements tallied two runs and two RBIs off a double and single.

Chloe Reiter picked up the win in the second game, helping her own cause with three runs and a double.

Wolfe went 3 for 4 with three runs and a triple, Emerine drove in two runs and doubled, Beth Hay ended 3 for 4 with a double and Madison Gilliland scored twice, doubled and singled. Meghan Reiter backed them with four runs and three RBIs off two singles.

Niese scored twice and singled twice for the Thunderbirds, and Mary Stoll doubled.

Gibsonburg sweeps up H-L

GIBSONBURG - Shoddy defense doomed Hopewell-Loudon in the opener and the Chieftains couldn't hold a lead in the second game Saturday as Gibsonburg swept a doubleheader 11-0 and 10-9.

Hopewell-Loudon committed eight errors in the first game while the Chieftains only collected three hits, getting a single each from Hailee Hill, Kassie Welly and Aubrey Affholder.

Erin Gilbert took the loss for H-L.

The Chieftains looked to bounce back in a back-and-forth second game, plating four in the top of the fifth for a 9-6 lead.

But the Golden Bears scored twice in the bottom of the fifth and got single runs in the sixth and seventh to pull away.

Kelsey Coppus suffered the loss. She also doubled.

Abby Parks went 4 for 5 with three runs, four RBIs and a double. Hill drove in two runs and doubled, Racquel Hossler scored twice and singled twice, Alicia Frank and Lauren Trumpler both belted two singles and Affholder had two RBIs and a single.

Mohawk drops shootout in Gahanna

GAHANNA - Mohawk dropped its second game in two days at the Gahanna Tournament, falling 13-11 Saturday to Brunswick. The Warriors were nipped 7-6 by Stow Friday night.

Brunswick (10-2) jumped out 7-0 after two innings. Mohawk finally got the bats going late, posting five runs in the fourth inning and five in the sixth, but were never able to overtake the Blue Devils.

Brooke Weinandy knocked a home run over the fence while McKenzie Sowers had five RBIs to lead Mohawk (8-5).

Sarah Runion and Ashley Cooper each had three-hit games. Runion had two RBIs and Cooper brought home one. Taylor McClain and Clara Adelsperger each added RBIs.

Dominant day for Buckettes

NEW WASHINGTON - Buckeye Central was the better team against South Central and proved it with a pair of shutout victories Saturday, 11-0 and 16-0. The second game was highlighted by Makayla Stover no-hitting the Spartans.

The first inning of game 1 set the tone for the rest of the day with Buckeye Central plating five runs. Two more in the second and four in the third were enough for the run rule to be enforced after the fifth inning.

Sarah Alt had a pair of doubles and drove in four runs. Maddie Ehresman tripled, doubled and drove in

three runs. Morgan Wurm was the game's winning pitcher.

In game 2, half of the Buckettes' 18 hits went for extra bases. Ehresman singled, doubled, tripled and drove in three. Kelly Redmon had three hits and drove in three.

Also, Brooke Myers had two doubles, a single and an RBI. Hannah Heydinger drove in a pair of runs. Stover, Maddie Boes and Sierra Hanes all added RBIs.
