Grant winners announced

FREMONT - Thirteen organizations received funding to start recycling programs or to buy products made from recycled materials in the first round of competitive funding offered by Ottawa-Sandusky-Seneca Joint Solid Waste Management District.

Entities receiving funding were Allen Township trustees, $5,000 to purchase fencing; Ballville Township trustees, $3,823 for recycled plastic parking stops at Conner Park; Calvert Catholic Schools, $4,050 to purchase bleachers and benches made of recycled content; village of Genoa, $3,125 for recycled plastic playground equipment in the shape of a pirate ship; Lakeside Volunteer Fire Protective Association, $2,950 to purchase cribbing and hose bridges made of recycled content; Main Street Port Clinton, $2,240 for sandwich board signs made of recycled plastic; New Riegel Moose Lodge 872, $1,811 to expand its recycling program; Ottawa County Visitor's Bureau, $1,475 for recycled-content picnic tables and waste receptacles; city of Port Clinton, $4,335 to purchase picnic tables and a sign made of recycled plastic for Portage Park; Put-In-Bay Township, $4,554 to purchase recycled plastic picnic tables, benches and a sign to be placed at the township garage; Seneca County Soil and Water Conservation District, $6,908 to purchase benches and interchangeable signs made of recycled content for Miller Conservation Farm; Tiffin Park and Recreation Department, $5,592 for bleachers made of recycled aluminum; and Woodmore Schools Athletic Department, $3,168 for recycled plastic picnic tables.
