Nancy Lee Getz

Nancy Lee Getz, 76, of Tiffin, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 15, 2012, in Sarasota, Fla.

She was born Jan. 25, 1936, in Massillon, to Severian and Mary (Molson) Gresser. She married Jim Getz June 11, 1955.

Survivors include her husband, Jim; son, Jim (Terrie) Getz of Medina; daughter, Kelly (Frank) Lamoreaux of Attica; brother, Ronald Gresser of Massillon; and six grandchildren, Katelin, Ryan, Laura and Tom Getz and Matt and Jacob Lamoreaux.

Nancy graduated from Washington High School, Massillon, received a bachelor's degree from Heidelberg College and earned a master's degree at BGSU. She taught at C.A. Krout Elementary School and Tiffin Middle School for 30 years. She was recognized as an outstanding elementary and middle school teacher who made learning fun. Many of her students became teachers because of the role model that she provided. After retiring, she supervised student teachers for Heidelberg. She was requested by students because of her wealth of ideas and the positive guidance she provided.

In 1998, she was awarded the Heidelberg Citation, which is the highest alumni honor. Nancy was a member of the Fellows Organization for 43 years and served as the secretary for the past 22 years. She was a member of the Philalethean Society and the education honor society Kappa Delta Pi. She was an original member of the Heidelberg Alumni Council. She served as Heidelberg's first lady while her husband Jim was interim president.

She also served on the Tiffin YMCA board of directors, was the past president of Penthouse and the past president for Mohawk Women's Golf Association. Nancy was a huge fan of Heidelberg University athletics, Cleveland Browns and Ziggy comics. She enjoyed walking, golf, playing mahjong and bridge.

There will be a celebration of Nancy's life Sunday, April 22, 2012, on the Heidelberg University campus. The event will begin at 1:30 p.m. with services at 2 p.m. In order to plan for space and food, please respond to (419) 448-2565. Dress will be casual.
