NORWALK - Calvert's boys took second place at a tri-meet at Norwalk St. Paul, which also included Mansfield St. Peter. St. Paul topped Calvert, 95-46, with St. Peter's tallying eight points. On the girls' side, St. Paul beat St. Peter's 98-30, with Calvert scoring eight.
For Calvert, Nate Mathias swept the throwing events. He won the discus with a toss of 130-3, over 30-feet better than the second-place finisher. Mathias also won the shot, throwing 40-feet.
Jared Thompson was the only other Seneca to score a first-place finish, winning the 300 in a time of 55.6.
The top finishes by the Calvert girls were a pair of second places. Cassie Recker was second in the shot put (26-7) and Gina Grandillo in the high jump (4-6).
Columbian tennis tops Madison
Columbian defeated Madison, 4-1 to improve to 7-4 overall.
Columbian swept the doubles match and picked up two singles wins.
Mason McCool and John Obringer defeated Nick Nadler and Zach Dillon, 2-6 6-3 6-3. Jared Fleming and Braden Kuhn defeated Isiah Mayer and Aaron West, 6-2 6-3.
In singles action for Columbian, Nick Gaietto defeated Bobby Reid, 6-2 6-0, and Brandon Berry defeated Ryan Boyer, 6-0 6-4.
Madison's lone win came from Austen Hammett who beat Victor Keller 6-1, 6-0.
