Karl Sheridan Spencer

Karl Sheridan Spencer, 92, formerly of Attica, died Monday, April 16, 2012, at Willard Health Care, Willard.

He was born Nov. 11, 1919, in Attica, to the late Clarence J. and Varie (Riddle) Spencer. Mr. Spencer farmed on the family farm for years; as well as worked at Pioneer Rubber, Attica, and later worked at PPG, Crestline, retiring in April 1982.

Mr. Spencer was sergeant of Battery B 229th anti-aircraft artillery searchlight battalion of World War II. His decorations and citations included the American Theater medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater medal with one bronze star, the Philippine Liberation Good Conduct medal and the Victory medal. He was a member of the Union Pisgah Church, American Legion and VFW posts, Silver King tractor club and enjoyed old tractors especially Case.

Mr. Spencer is survived by a sister, Ruth Sutter of Bryan and three nieces, Helen (John) Laux of Mansfield, Sharon Spencer of Mount Vernon and Cindy Sutter of Montpelier.

He also was preceded in death by brother, Robert Spencer; nephew, Terry Sutter; and special friend, Mae Paylor.

His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, 295 W. Tiffin St., Attica, with Pastor Pete Bellamy presiding.

Friends may call from noon until the time of the funeral Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Attica-Venice Township Cemetery, Attica.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Pisgah Church through the funeral home.
