CAREY - Eight is a pretty big number. If a team can put up eight runs in an inning, it's a fair bet that team is going to win. Hopewell-Loudon did it twice against Carey. The result was a 19-0 Midland Athletic League win for the Chieftains.
Coming off its first loss of the season Saturday, Hopewell-Loudon (12-1, 4-0 MAL) responded by taking batting practice off the Blue Devils. The Chieftains ripped 15 hits in the game, including a pair of grand slam home runs. Tyler Tyree and Jordan Reinhart each cleared the bases with a shot that cleared the fence.
Reinhart finished with five RBIs in the game. Logan Sendelbach and Eric Depinet each drove in a pair of runs. Sendelbach had a double and a single while Depinet had three hits.

Tyree picked up his fourth win of the year on the mound. He struck out 10 in a five-hit shutout.
Dillon Sammons had a pair of hits for Carey (3-9, 1-3). Alex Naeyaert, Brady Mullholand and Bryce Mullholand all had base hits.

Calvert basts Mohawk
TOLEDO - Clint Bogner knocked in four runs Monday to fuel Calvert's 11-1 non-league win over Mohawk at Fifth Third Field in Toledo
Bogner tripled, singled and scored for the Senecas (7-3), who snapped a scoreless tie with four runs in the bottom of the second.
Alec Brickner added a double, run and RBI, and Derek Herzog scored twice, chased in two runs and singled.
Ryan Huss (2-1) got the win, scattering three hits and four strikeouts over the five innings of play.
Nathan Weinandy took the loss for the Warriors.
Mitch Brown and Aric Shock both doubled, with Brown scoring. Andrew Loose had a single and RBI.
Buckeye Central blows past Crestline
NEW WASHINGTON - The wind was friend and foe Monday for Buckeye Central.
On one hand, it gave pitcher Tyler Erwin another 5-6 miles per hour on his pitches. On the other, the gusty conditions kept two Erwin triples in the park and were the cause for three BC throwing errors.
Wind-aided or not, it was the Bucks who prevailed with a 9-1 victory against North Central Conference foe Crestline.
"It's not as bad when you win," Buckeye Central coach Chad Jensen said. "We manufactured a lot of runs with the wind."
For example, Chase Finney had two successful squeeze bunts and Jacob Zeiter had another for the Bucks (11-3, 3-1 NCC).
"The situation was there and we were able to take advantage," Jensen said. "We getting to where we're doing the little things to win. This was a big league win."
Zeiter also doubled and tripled. Adam Paynter had three singles and Justin Herrnstein had the team's other hit.
Erwin (3-1) was nasty on the mound in the complete game one-hitter. The senior flamethrower mowed down 12 Bulldogs and walked one.
Crestline (3-10, 1-2) picked up its run in the fourth when Sam Anatra scored. He also had Crestline's lone hit.
Big third powers Lakota
RISINGSUN - When Lakota came to the plate in its half of the third inning, the Raiders trailed St. Wendelin 2-1. When the inning was over, the Raiders enjoyed a 10-2 lead.
St. Wendelin wasn't able to recover from Lakota's offensive explosion as the Raiders claimed a 13-3 Midland Athletic League win.
For Lakota (5-4, 2-1) Brian Vamos doubled and drove in three runs. Tiger Jaso singled, doubled and drove in two while Nathan Ray had a pair of base hits driving in two. Kyle Brewer tripled and Jordan Harrison singled each driving in two.
Gavin Sprow had two base hits and Jacob Aaron had the other Lakota RBI.
Jaso and Nick Watts combined to allow just five St. Wendelin (0-7, 0-4) hits.
Seneca East run rules Bobcats
ATTICA - Seneca East's Jordan Bowerman beat Bettsville both with his arm and his bat Monday.
The Tigers needed just five innings to drop the Bobcats, 14-0.
Bowerman went four innings with 10 strikeouts. At the plate, he launched a solo home run.
Triple Tigers (10-3, 2-2 Midland Athletic League) tripled in the victory: Dalton Wise, Elliot Lee and Mason McWilliams. Wise had two other hits and Lee and McWilliams also singled. Ethan Caudill doubled and singled in the victory.
The Tigers blasted out of the gate with eight in the first inning and cruised from there, scoring two in the second, third and fourth innings.
"We hit the ball well. We had good at-bats. We had patient at-bats," Seneca East coach Frank Lamoreaux said. "It was challenging for both pitchers but considering the conditions, I thought both pitchers threw the ball well."
Dominic King (1-1) had two strikeouts and two walks in the loss.
Bettsville managed just three hits in the loss: King with two and Robert McDole with the other.
Upper Sandusky thumps Lucas
LUCAS - Upper Sandusky's Justin Mattix got all the run support he needed Monday from his own stick.
The senior hit a grand slam and a double, driving in five in a 15-4 demolition of Lucas (1-7, 0-3 North Central Conference).
Mattix (1-2) went four innings, striking out seven and allowing three runs.
Daniel Newell had two doubles and three RBIs while Cameron Crawford and Tristan Reichelderfer each singled in the victory for the Rams (3-7, 2-2 NCC).
Upper Sandusky scored in all five innings of the contest but the bulk of its scoring came in the second (four runs) and fourth innings (six runs).
Redmen rally for win
ELMORE - Fostoria trailed by two runs going into its final at-bats. The Redmen rallied to tie the game, then picked up three runs in the eighth to steal an 11-8 win from Woodmore.
Casey Kitchen and Chris Hampton each had 3-RBI days for the Redmen. Elijah Hampton had two hits and drove in two runs. Tyler Layton and Kaleb Bemis each added base hits.
Anthony Dean picked up the win on the mound. He gave up eight runs, six earned in eight innings, but allowed only four hits and struck out eight.
Fostoria improves to 5-8, 1-2 Northern Buckeye Conference.
