MARIETTA - Top-ranked and defending national champion Marietta swept Heidelberg in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday, winning by scores of 5-3 and 13-9.
The Pioneers snapped a 2-all tie in the fourth inning of the first game with a three-run burst and held the Student Princes at bay from there for the first win.
Joe Chiarappa scored twice and tripled for Heidelberg and Ricardo Lizcano doubled in a run. Tyler Fruhwirth took the loss, with only two of the five runs scored against him being earned.
Marietta batted around in the first inning of the second game to grab control with a 7-0 lead.
Lizcano doubled in a run for the Student Princes (16-13, 5-5). Chiarappa and Jordan Martin both lined two hits, with Chiarappa getting a double.
Chris Thomas took the loss.
Student Princes storm past Marietta men's tennis
Heidelberg went 5-1 in singles matches and swept the doubles Saturday in an Ohio Athletic Conference men's tennis contest with Marietta.
Bobby Lochotzki, Cliff Goetz, Zach Schwenning, Dorion Kempf and Matthew McDivitt captured singles wins for the Student Princes (10-4, 4-1 OAC).
The doubles wins came from the tandems of Lochotzki and Goetz, Ryan Patrick Earl and Schwenning, and Kempf and Dorion.
The Pioneers slipped to 7-3, 2-2 in the conference.

MARIETTA - Heidelberg stormed past Marietta 8-1 in women's tennis Saturday to improve to 5-6 overall and 3-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
The Student Princes won five the six singles matches and took all three doubles contests.
Deidre Potter, Katie Strahan, Jackie Earl, Sara Potts and Melissa Herrera-Ortiz won in singles.
The teams of Potter and Kayla Gerber, Strahan and Earl, and Potts and Herrera-Ortiz picked up the doubles wins.
Marietta (0-8, 0-4) remained winless.
