There's a lesson in the sad tale involving a canvas duffel containing six puppies abandoned near a trash bin outside a Toledo business.
No, that lesson isn't about taking care to remove evidence; a luggage tag with contact information led to a Toledo resident being charged with abandoning the animals.
Thankfully, the six mixed-breed bulldog pups and their mother were found, and are at a foster home awaiting adoption.
"It's unfortunate he chose to abandon the dogs," said John Dinon, executive director of the Toledo Area Humane Society told a reporter for The Blade. "If he had just called us and said he couldn't care for them, we would have taken them and he wouldn't have been charged with a crime."
The real lesson here is the importance of having pets spayed or neutered. At worst, the owner would have had to find a shelter to accept one dog. Now, a new home - or, most likely, new homes - must be found for seven canines.
And if a person can't afford to have a cat or dog spayed or neutered - and assistance is available - that person really can't afford to own the pet.
