ATTICA - Finishing at or near the top paid off big Saturday for two area track teams.
Seneca East's boys and Carey's girls each won or took second in all but three of the 16 events Saturday to claim titles at the Seneca East Tiger Relays.
Each squad captured nine events, with the Tigers dropping Carey 133-94 for the boys title and the Blue Devils overpowering Seneca East 140-92 for the girls championship.
Seneca East's Ben Hahler, Owen Best and Lance Bohren took the shot (123-9), and Aaron Strausbaugh, Adam Hall and Ben Frankart claimed the triple jump (103-5 1/2).
Wes Pipfer, Jason Willman, Jared Stockmaster and Robbie Schaffer ran to victory in the 4 x 1,600 (20:09.4), as did Nick Hughes, Kevin Moore, Strausbaugh and Craig Gildenmeister in the shuttle hurdle relay (1:00.8).
Discus throwers Evan Schaffer, Hahler and Best then captured a victory (358-3) to kick start a five-event win sweep.
The Tigers followed with wins in the 4 x 800 (8:53.5), one-lap hurdles (53.5), 4 x 300 (2:40.8) and two-lap hurdles (2:00.3).
Brad McConnell, Pipher, Robbie Schaffer and Willman ran the 4 x 800.
Strausbaugh, Gildenmeiser, Frankart and Hunter Saylors ran the one-lap hurdles.
Hall, McConnell, Karl Burgderfer and Jordan Phillips hit the track in the 4 x 300.
Frankart, Gildenmeister, Saylors and Garrett Boesser claimed the two-lap hurdles.
The Tigers added seconds in the long jump (52-2), pole vault (31-6), 4 x 200 (1:38.1) and 4 x 400 (3:41.4).
Carey won the long jump (54-0), pole vault (33-6) and high jump (16-8).
Carey's girls captured the high jump (14-2), long jump (43-3 1/2), pole vault (21-6), triple jump (84-11 1/2), shuttle hurdle (1:11.6), 4 x 200 (1:51.8), one-lap hurdles (1:03.4), 4 x 300 (3:08.5) and two-lap hurdles (2:32.8).
Carey's runner-up finishes came in the 4 x 100 (53.9), 4 x 1,600 (25:42.1), 4 x 800 (11:26.9) and 4 x 400 (4:38.4).
Seneca East won the shot put (96-6).
Names were not provided for all teams.
