I am writing about an article in The Advertiser-Tribune March 14, 2012, page 3A. It was a proposal for a new courthouse. A couple of months ago, we were told by the commissioners that we needed a couple courtrooms and they would save the money and there would be no cost to the taxpayers. Now, we are told we need a new three- or four-story courthouse and we have just the place for it. MKC Associates have the plans for it. I smell something.
I think this was the plan all along. A couple months later, we need a three- or four-story courthouse and they will save us money. That's politician talk for more taxes. In this economy with gas, food and everything else going up, we don't need more taxes. I'm struggling now on a fixed income. I have to put more things off every month that I need done. We had a mild winter, and that helped, but who knows about next year. The economy doesn't look like it will recover very fast, either.
I say if we only needed a couple courtrooms a couple months ago, then stuck with that plan. If the city needs court space, they can build theirs. I don't see how the money they say will be "saved" will buy gas or food for us. Think about it.
