Friday Night Live this month is to feature musical talent from Heidelberg University. Greg Ramsdell is to direct the vocal portion of the show.

"This is a Heidelberg University event. ... So, the current plan is to split the performance between the Singing Collegians and a couple of jazz combos that are directed by Scott Kretzer," Ramsdell said.

Nine women and six men comprise the Collegians. Some will perform solo and ensemble numbers in addition to those by the group.

Some of the selections are "Nothing Can Stop Me Now," "Everybody Rejoice" from "The Wiz," "We Dance" from "Once on This Island," and "Footloose" from the film of the same name.

"The Collegians are a show choir, so there is a fun element, but there's a strong choreographed element, as well. We tend to emphasize music that is from the Broadway musical theater tradition or the popular music tradition," Ramsdell said.

The Collegians usually appear locally. They have performed at Kiwanis Manor, Friedman Village and Good Shepherd Home, and for the Martin Luther King Jr. convocation at Heidelberg. They entertain at numerous civic gatherings and on-campus recruiting events.

"It's a long list. We've been very active this year," Ramsdell said.

In April, the singers are traveling to Columbus for an alumni event.

Admission for Friday Night Live is $10. The show is at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
