First Lutheran Church, 300 Melmore St., plans a 7 p.m. worship service Wednesday with the imposition of ashes and Holy Communion.
This year, First Lutheran plans to follow a teaching series Wednesday nights, titled "Cross Peace," which focuses on the theme of Jesus' passion using objects that are placed in a central place in the home. A cross is to be given to attending families at the Ash Wednesday worship service.
On subsequent Wednesday nights, a light supper is to be served in the Fellowship Hall at 6 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. with a message that focuses on Jesus' passion that is part of the "Cross Peace" series. Additional objects are to be given out each Wednesday throughout Lent (Feb. 29, March 7, 14, 21, and 28) to place on or at the base of the cross. Members of the community are welcome to participate.
