Richard Eugene "Dick" Detterman, 84, of Bucyrus and formerly Bloomville, died Wednesday evening, Feb. 8, 2012, at his residence in Bucyrus, surrounded by his family.
Richard was born Jan. 15, 1928, in Bloomville, to Halcyon and Laura (Smith) Detterman, who preceded him in death. He was the oldest of seven siblings, who survive him, Bernice (Clifford) Price of Bloomville, Zelma (Kevin) Rothhaar of Bucyrus, Patrica Clark of Attica, Charles of Tiffin, Gerald (Donna) of Bucyrus, and Kenneth (Evalina) of Bloomville.
Dick married Mabel Marie Ruth Sept. 28, 1951, at Grace EUB Church, Bucyrus, and she survives. Also surviving are one son, Chris of Bucyrus; four daughters, Peggy (Steve) George of Bloomville, Susan of Tiffin, Inez (Rocky) Rakauskas of Monteagle, Tenn., and Marlene (Bernard) Cramer of Marion; 13 grandchildren, Rob (Buffy) Detterman, Brian (Dawn) Detterman, Cory (Jerri Barger) Detterman, Eric George, Libby (Steve) Warunek, Kurt (Maria) Detterman, Luke (Sara) Cramer, Bess (Christopher) Daniel, Jenney (Rey Sauceda) Myers, Gwen Ternet, Abraham Cramer, Jolene Cramer, and Neil Cramer; and 23 great-grandchildren, Dylan, Randy, Aidan, Micah, Anna, Emma, Zoey, Elysse, Lauren, Kaitlyn, Autumn, Allie, Caiden, Walker, Xavier, Kade, Brady, Olivia, Colt, Ilina, Damien, Carter and CJ.

Richard was a retired carpenter. He graduated in 1946 from Attica High School and was a former member of the Attica Lions Club. He enjoyed spending time helping the Melmore Odd Fellows Lodge during sausage-making, enjoyed making apple butter with the members of College Hill UCC and giving advice to his brother during maple-syrup making. He was a member of College Hill United Church of Christ and the Silver King Association. He received the Lord into his life.
A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at Bloomville United Church of Christ, 31 N. Marion St., Bloomville, with the Rev. Robert Haskins and the Rev. Cathy Wirth officiating. Final resting place will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bloomville.
Visitation for friends and family will be 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., prior to the service at the church.
