CAREY - Carey school board members were acknowledged Monday evening for their service and presented certificates by Superintendent Mark Vehre.
Vehre commended the members and thanked them for the great job they do for the school, students and community.
The board continued with its annual organizational meeting, electing Jennifer Coppler as president and Linda Kin as vice president. The board also appointed members to standing committees.
The board service account was set at $5,000 for this year to pay expenses incurred in duties performed by board members. The board also decided meetings are to remain the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m.
High School Principal Peter Cole congratulated the FFA for receiving a $2,500 grant from Kevin Summit courtesy of the Monsanto Seed Co.
Cole said Summit donated his winnings from Monsanto and the FFA plans to use the funds on an educational program for kids or to update the chapter's American and State Degree boards.
Heather Stombaugh with Just Write Solutions presented the board with a proposal for her services in providing preparation of federal and state grant applications. She provided the board with grant funding opportunities available for renovation projects in the building, including window replacement and flood control.
The board approved:
Approved Superintendent and treasurer standing authorizations for this year.
Approved the Carey Board of Education Scholarship set at $600.
Approved an alternative tax budget for fiscal year July 1 through June 30, 2013.
Retained Scott, Scriven and Wahoff Law Firm for legal services relating to school law and employments.
Hired TFC Architects Engineers for a window replacement project with a cost not to exceed $19,850, and a flood control project with a cost not to exceed $24,860.
Accepted Samantha Derr's resignation as junior high girls track coach.
The next meeting is 7 p.m. Feb. 13.
