January 9, 2012
The Advertiser-Tribune

FREMONT - Fremont Police Department, along with other law enforcement agencies, executed search warrants at three Internet cafes in Fremont Saturday evening.

According to a release from the department, Lot$ of Fun, 1221 Oak Harbor Road; Lucky Dog, 1800 W. State St.; and Players Club, 121 S. Fifth St., were part of a five-week investigation of illegal gambling.

Confidential informants were sent into the establishments and received cash payouts for winning games on their computers during the five-week period, the release states. Judge John Dewey of Sandusky County Common Pleas Court signed a search warrant Friday, and it was served just after 5 p.m. Saturday at all three establishments simultaneously, it states.

The search warrants were a result of the businesses' non-compliance with Ohio gambling laws, according to the release.

The search warrants were coordinated between Fremont police detectives and uniformed officers, Ohio Investigative Unit and State Highway Patrol.

Fremont Fire Department and Fremont street department employees assisted with disassembling computers and desks and transported items seized as a result of the warrant, the release states.
