Bird counts planned for kids

January 6, 2012
The Advertiser-Tribune

A "Leave No Child Inside" children's bird count is planned through northwest Ohio Jan. 14 as part of a movement encouraging kids and families to enjoy the outdoors.

In Seneca County, children can join a group 10 a.m.-noon at Garlo Heritage Nature Preserve. They can walk the trails or find a spot in the preserve and count the number of birds and different species they see. Then, they will meet in the nature center to view birds, make a pinecone bird feeder, warm up with hot cocoa and get a bird book to take home.

In Sandusky County, the count is planned for 9 a.m.-noon at White Star Barn, 5013 CR 65, Gibsonburg. Birders of all skill levels and ages are invited.

Registration is required by calling (419) 435-3915 in Seneca County or (419) 334-4495 in Sandusky County.
