Richard J. Hoover, 86, of Tiffin, Maumee and most recently of Englewood, Fla., passed away Saturday afternoon, Dec. 31, 2011, at Emeritus at River Oaks Assisted Living, Englewood.
He was born May 7, 1925, in Seneca County, to Franklin and Estella (Kimmet) Hoover. He married Emma Zoeller Nov. 23, 1944, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Emma of Englewood, Fla; three sons, Larry (Brenda) Hoover of Venice, Fla., Gary (Anne) Hoover of Ponte Vedra, Fla., and John (Cyndy) Hoover of Englewood, Fla.; five daughters, Carol Ritchie of Tiffin, Donna (Don) Bare of Tehra, Neb., Sharon Schleter of Westerville, Debra (Mark) Theis of Pt. Charlotte, Fla., and Mary Ann (Bob) Michel of Perrysburg; a brother, Ronald (Pattie) Hoover of Bascom; a sister, Rose Mary Magers of Tiffin; 21 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Kenneth, Donald and Charles Hoover; a sister, Norma Jean Haefer; and two infant sisters.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Richard was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, retired from National Machinery in 1986 after 34 years, where he was a member of its Quarter Century Club. Richard and Emma lived part time in Florida the past 25 years, making many friends.
His Mass of Christian burial will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, with the Rev. Frank Murd officiating. Burial will follow at Seneca Memory Gardens. A rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass.
Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian wake service will be at 8 p.m. The National Machinery Quarter Century Club will meet in body at 7 p.m.
Visitation will be 9:45-10:45 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home prior to Mass.
