Pastor Dave Jones and the Rev. Robin LaBolt prepare for their spaghetti-and-meatball challenge. The United Church of Christ pastors in neighboring communities plan a spaghetti-and-meatballs “Throwdown” ala Food Network as a fundraiser.
LaBolt, pastor of Sycamore United Church of Christ, and Jones, of Trinity UCC in McCutchenville, plan to have the Chef Bobby Flay-style showdown Nov. 5 at Trinity UCC to collect funds and food for the church’s nationwide Mission: 1 Against Hunger effort.
Nov. 1-11, the UCC aims to collect more than 1 million food and household items for local food banks, as well as $111,111 in online donations for hunger-related ministries and $111,111 in online donations for East Africa famine relief. The UCC also is asking its 5,300 congregations to advocate for hunger-related causes worldwide via 11,111 letters to Congress.
A canned good and a donation are requested to take part in the pasta dinner.
