As members of Congress and President Barack Obama were discussing tax increases Friday, the Labor Department issued a timely news release.
Unemployment rates increased in 28 states and the District of Columbia during June. Rates improved in only eight states, remaining flat in 14 others.
Clearly, the economy has a long climb ahead of it before millions of Americans can consider the "Great Recession" over.
Higher taxes on businesses and households would reverse growth and destroy even more jobs. We hope Obama and lawmakers keep that in mind as they discuss proposals to increase tax revenue.
