The Tiffin Drive-In Theater opened for business in July 1949. Monday, the Tiffin Chamber of Commerce conducted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the addition of a second screen at the drive-in, 4041 N. SR 53, Tiffin.
Rodney and Donna Saunders purchased the property in April and renamed it the Field of Dreams Drive-In Theater Tiffin. It opened for business May 27.
The theater has undergone many improvements since April and now sports a new movie screen. Rain earlier in the day did not postpone the celebration of its completion. The Saunders family was on hand for the occasion.
Tiffin Chamber of Commerce members and owners of Field of Dreams Drive-In cut the ribbon to open a second screen Monday at the Tiffin theater.
"The day cleared up nicely, but it was very muddy around the new second screen. So, we did the 'festivities' at the concessions building," Donna Saunders said.
"Adding a second screen to this theater is essential to growth and ultimate success of this theater," Rodney Saunders said. "Two screens make it possible to show new, first-run movies every weekend. We will now offer four different movies every weekend, so we can meet the needs of more customer demand."
The Field of Dreams Drive-In Theater is open on the weekends with occasional special events during the week. For example, today the drive-in is to open its gates at 10:30 p.m. for a special "see-it-first" viewing of the new "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 2)."
Showtime for the PG-13 movie will be at 12:01 a.m.
Tickets are $7 for those age 13 and older and $4 for children ages 5-12 and senior citizens. Children age 4 and younger are admitted free with an accompanying parent.
Movie listings for both screens are available online at www.fieldofdreamsdrivein.com, via a toll-free phone number, (877) 343-5334, or various smart phone applications.
